Melanoma is an aggressive tumor arising from melanocytes. It is present on skin and mucous membranes. They can be of varying size with different width and depth. ABCDEs are used to detect such melanomas. A for asymmetry; b for border irregularity; c for color variation; d for diameter >6 mm; e for evolving (change in size, shape, color, elevation, new symptoms like itching, bleeding, crusting).
Melanoma is a cancer of melanocytes or melanin-forming cells of the skin. It is well known as skin cancer. It can spread from 1mm to 4mm maximum. The stage when its thickness reaches up to 4 mm is alarming and has maximum chances of recurrence due to its possibility to infect other organs also.
Tumor thickness is known as Breslow thickness or Breslow depth. This is a significant factor in predicting how far a melanoma has advanced.
